Creating a Fake Light Leak/Film Burn Animation with After Effects

If you don't want to make them yourself, you can download free light leaks here.

In this video, we'll guide you through creating a fake light leak or film burn animation using Adobe After Effects. Follow these steps to add a stylish and cinematic touch to your footage.

**Step 1: Prepare Your Footage**
Start by preparing the footage you’ll be working with. Import it into After Effects and create a new solid layer above your footage. Rename this layer to "light leak."

**Step 2: Apply and Adjust Color Gradient**
Apply a color gradient effect to your "light leak" layer. Adjust the gradient colors to warm tones such as orange or red. You can also experiment with different colors and blending modes to achieve the desired effect.

**Step 3: Create the Animation**
Set up the animation by entering an expression and value on the stopwatch. To enhance the effect, apply the "Turbulent Noise" effect found under "Noise & Grain" in the Effects panel. This will add texture and movement to your light leak.

**Step 4: Preview and Adjust**
Preview your animation by scrubbing through your timeline to ensure the effect looks as desired. Make any necessary adjustments to perfect your light leak or film burn animation.
