Creating a Sci-Fi Gun Blast with After Effects
In this tutorial, you will learn how to create a sci-fi gun blast animation using Adobe After Effects. We will provide a link where you can download the footage used in this tutorial, which you can use for practice if you prefer not to shoot your own footage just yet.
First, drag the footage you decide to use into a new composition in After Effects. Make sure to change the settings to 32 bits per channel for the color. Locate the positions where you want to release the shot so you can incorporate the audio at these points. Mark these positions to serve as your reference for the gun shots or blasts.
Next, create the gun blast by adding a new solid layer to your composition. Rename that layer to "flare" and generate a lens flare from the effect settings. Learn more about this effect and see what it looks like by watching this video tutorial.
